Stephen Shore- HOW TO SEE

Today I watched a YouTube video by Stephen Shore, produced by Museum of Modern Art. Shore spoke about his body of works and his journey and process to achieve them. The work that interested me the most was Uncommon Places and Shore makes an interesting quote in reference to his approach “I’m often relying on the descriptive power of the camera to make a complex picture that the viewer moves their attention through, so what I’m doing is creating a small world for the viewer to explore, rather than the impression of what it’s like to look through my eyes” Shores concept is something I can relate to with my practice, regardless of all the different structures I am presented with the best way to achieve my intent is to give the viewer a descriptive visual of the site that I am capturing. When capturing landscapes Shore also talks about the importance of relationships between structures within his photos, and always makes a lengthy conscious decision on where to place himself so this can achieved. I think I can take from that is to take my time with the construction of my image.
