Week 7 Publication Guidance
Bit of a scary week for me, thinking about what kind of publication would best suit our works and produce a ‘dummy book’ for our work also. Unfortunately, I’m not in position to create a dummy book, I don’t have enough images of different sites to piece together this jigsaw. Instead I’ll discuss some ideas that I would consider for my final publication. For me my publication would be a physical thing, I like to hold, open, flick and feel the papers between my fingers. I would defiantly include quite bit of text to add to its historic context, which could potentially open up to a bigger audience and help to understand my intent of my work. I think it’s important to share this information with the audience, so they too can experience a journey through the areas and sites. Maps/imagery old and new will no doubt be included, again to add context and create emotional connection to my work.
I have a makeup artistry book (SEE BELOW) which is my absolute favourite publication in the way it looks and feels, I like the use of acetate between the pagers. It reminds me of sketch book, I think something like that would suit my work, I have few different elements that I will probably want to include. If I do decide to include aerials, maps and stories of the area I think this kind of sketch book setup would work best.

In this week’s presentation there was mention of Lucas Blalock (2016) Making Memeries in things we should consider when looking at publications. Gary goes on to talk about Blalock’s body of work, the viewer is presented with images and if the viewer holds a smartphone above the images, it reveals ringing telephones, fragmentation and obstructions.

I find this very interesting I wonder how I could incorporate the use of digital tech to add an interactive element. I’m hoping to get in touch with a museum that has voice recordings of personnel that were at these sites in WW2, just an idea but maybe I can incorporate that somehow?
