Week 8 Workshop Guidance
This week’s topic, was guidance on how to establish a workshop, to create learning experiences for the photographer and participants. Which could expand our working methodologies within our current practice and projects. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will have time to execute a workshop, but I did have a couple of ideas of what I would have done.
A couple of months ago I did have a discussion with Queens University Belfast that we would organise a workshop for Air Cadets, around the importance of documenting old airfield sites. Prof Lilley with his geographic/archeologically perspective and mine a photographic one. I think I also would have invited local historian Ernie Cromie to give some accurate context to the area. Air cadets were chosen as the participates as they should hopefully have some interest in air power/history. They also represent a younger generation to try and get them to understand and relate to our intent of recording and preserving history.
I guess from my point of view I would be interested in what the Air Cadets thought of the landscape and buildings, how they would capture it. I would imagine photographic abilities would be mixed throughout the group and I would encourage them to use the equipment they had to hand, smart phone or family camera. I would also bring my DSLR camera and tripod to offer some photographic knowledge with different types of equipment. I would set the group a small task to capture a couple of elements within the site like most interesting, a close up, a wide shot and various things along those lines. I would then ask them to send them to me, so I could see the variations between participates and offer me a different perspective and methodology to what I use currently. The Air Cadets have now broken up for summer break, so I can’t carry out this workshop till a later module/date.
