First week back and students were asked to discuss project work over the break in a forum activity, this is my recap……
The topic for my project is capturing former WW1 & WW2 airfield sites within Northern Ireland. As my project takes shape I am considering various factors within these heritage sites, such as preservation, commemoration and regeneration whilst working with communities and historians. My progression through the modules, I think I have managed to touch upon these subjects through contextual research and photographically through my WIP. I hope I can fine tune my ideas in this module in order to commit to a solid intent that will take me into FMP. Through the break I have continued to network with Living Legacies and I have attended an exhibition/talk on ‘Then and Now photography of the First World War’. Confirmed attendance with another workshop by Living Legacies ‘Overhead and Underfoot: Legacies of World War 2 around Lough Neagh’. Made a new contact for exploring airfield sites in the North, aviation historian Jonny McNee. I also completed a recce for a new site Bishops Court and located possible points of interest for my project.

The presentations this week looked at advice on being a student and looking at other careers in the Photography Industry. The information platform Lecture in Progress is a great tool for inspiration and gain a wider perspective on the task at hand. Especially the paragraph by Luke Evans “Being confident in how you present your work is as important as making it” (https://lectureinprogress.com/advice/studying-luke-evans) This is a great reminder that I am happy with my work and it’s now time to talk about it and push it out there!
