Sustainable Prospects Week 5

This week looked at the importance of networking, collaborating and career progression.

The challenge this week was to create 3 networking opportunities and engage with them. Networking is a very important part to my project as it provides resources, ideas, funding and support. From the start of my project I have always engaged in network groups that a have a similar interest to my own, mainly focussed on disciplines such a research within the community. It is always interesting to get a different perspective on the history and the areas I am interested in. I attended a conference last week ‘Overhead and Underfoot’ which was based upon 2 WW2 airfield sites around the Lough Neagh. This task has motivated me to discuss my findings and email contacts, I will include this in my project development and you can read about HERE .

I found the recorded video that featured Steve McLeod and Katie O’Neill from Metro Imaging very interesting and it certainly raised topics that I haven’t thought about in a while and in which I have put on my to do list also some new points to consider. My project came to me through personal interest and I knew that’s what I wanted research and produce a body of work. In this video they discuss after education and how to progress through. Simple things like attending photography groups and start chatting- this would be good for me after the MA if I struggle to think of my next project. I have managed to network my area pretty well but some of it was down to being in the right place at the right time. Being in the military I will no doubt move so what if I have to be more proactive in networking. Attending groups and private showings at galleries and get talking to the people that attend is good way to start these relationships. I need to start thinking about other projects and not just using all my time for the MA, maybe there is something I can do at work that will get my creative juices going. Another point was portfolio reviews, I haven’t attended one as of yet and nor was it on my marketing plan Ooppps! In the next week I will research where I can get this done locally, as I like to do this face to face.
