FMP – Week one

First week back after Christmas break and entering the Final Major Project I am excited to get started. Even though my feedback from Sustainable Prospects has left my slightly confused and knocked my confidence in project ideas, I intend to push on and hopefully make some clear decisions that I can commit to my research proposal.

Coming into this module we were asked to produce a Pecha Kucha style presentation to introduce our project ideas to the module supervisor (which mine will be next week) see below for my presentation.

There was also a presentation (part one) on publishing strategies for our work, which was a great reminder that how we choose to present our work is just as important. How we edit, contextualise will determine the strength of our project. It was also noted that as this is an online MA, the projects and their outputs need to be accessible online.  The presentation looks at artist Dana Lixenberg and her project Imperial Courts, we viewed all the different ways in which her work was published from the traditional magazine commission, exhibition and publication but then into quite an impressive web presentation using multimedia and various collaborators. http://www.imperialcourtsproject.com/Using different elements such as video, stories, letters and audio to pull together a very layered piece. This example of a web presentation is certainly food for thought and I think would lend well to my project and including possible history artefacts or audio recordings.

I also received an invitation to exhibit in the Living Legacies ‘WW1 Engagement Centres Festival’. I’m not entirely sure what this will include but it will be on the 21stMay and it will be an opportunity to engage with audiences about my project. I hope to have a meeting with the project manager shortly to discuss programme and event practicalities.
