FMP – Week four

This week I worked on putting together my Final Project Proposal and you can see it here. I used Adobe Indesign for the first time, I watched a couple of Youtube videos so I could figure at the basics. Although I produced a simple design, I absolutely loved the programme and found it really effective for putting imagery and text together. I will definitely be experimenting with this programme from now on, so when it comes to designing my publication I will be a pro (ha maybe).

My camera was delivered!! It came in bits so a friend helped me assembly it. I’m so excited to use it, looking through the ground glass and playing around with the focusing/movements- now this is a proper camera. I’m still waiting for a shutter release to come and a new tripod head but I’m hoping to be out this weekend to put to my analogue skills to the test, I do hope this goes better then my experience with the Hassleblad.

I also watched the recording of Matthew Murrays lecture. I enjoyed hearing about how he likes to experiment with different equipment, as it changes his approach within a project. I can relate having just changed to using 5×4 camera (well about to shoot with it), using very expensive film I will be have to be more particular within my approach to each shot. The project Saddleworth was very inspiring, how he took a genre of photography that wasn’t familiar to him and produced beautiful landscapes. In which he talks about how this imagery doesn’t just represent the landscape but also his emotions at the time, when a family member became very ill.

This is very much a factor that can be represented in body of works, whether intentional or not just like any artist using any medium. The publication is very nice and Murray uses a limited edition print cover for each book, which is a nice touch to a sometimes mass produced market of photo books. I had to cut the lecture there as that was already an hour in and I think it went on for another hour, so I’ll pick it up perhaps later on.
