FMP – Week Nineteen

This week I just prepared for portfolio reviews that were put on by Belfast Photo Festival and were held at the Metropolitan Arts Centre (MAC) in Belfast.

To prepare for these I read up on couple posts online:

I had chosen reviewers Deirdre Robb, Chief Executive Belfast Exposed and Trish Lamb, Curator at Gallery of Photography. Belfast Photo Festival also gave me 2 other complementary reviewers Malcolm Dickson, Director of Street Level Photoworks, Glasgow and Roison Lanigan, Editor at i-D Magazine.

I started researching their bio’s as so I knew a bit about them and the work they were known for/or working on. This of course I did briefly before making my initial selection but as I was given another 2 I did a bit more research. Not sure how my work will relate to Roison as most of her work is fashion culture but I’m sure I will get something out it.

I also prepared some questions written down in my notebook, just in case my mind went blank and conversation wasn’t flowing. Sorts of questions like do the archive images work with the rest of them, are there any weaker images, when to include captions and how much information, how and what way would you display these, what would you include for a publication.

I printed all images 8×10 with a sizeable border onto matt paper (I would usually use lustre but my printer broke so had to use what was available), 30 images. I also printed 5 images with the border and title to the relevant structure just to show how I printed them for the pop up exhibition at Living Legacies Festival. I also included an A4 contact sheet with how I displayed my images for that event. The information sheet I also used for the pop up exhibition, I printed out to take (made smaller though into a booklet). I also fashioned a folder to carry all of my prints.

There are lots events going on this week and I have also booked myself to see the Unseen Dummy Award Presentations, which will include a selection of dummy book artists to present their award winning creations.
