FMP Project Development-13 Website

For the dissemination of my final images onto website platform I continued using SquareSpace. The orignal template was changed to Avenue, I preferred the layout with the menu being at the top. I kept the design simple as I’m not too great with website design. The website opens with a landing page that displays my name and title, with a background graphic that I took from an airfield site map. The enter button takes you to the introduction where the project descriptor and map of NI are there.

The menu navigates to 4 options introduction, the images, PDF for the book (get the book) and contact/acknowledgments. There are 32 images displayed in a carousel format, minimal captions are used, just structure name and location are shown when mouse is hovered over image. The ‘get the book’ menu has a drop down for a link to the pdf of the book, I am still deciding if I will also include an option to buy the book but to upgrade the website would in occur a cost that I would have to put on the sale of the book. I am encouraging audiences to download the book because it contains colour coded aircraft that relate to map, image and extended captions, wanting it to act as a guide as well as photographic body of work. I couldn’t find a way to keep the PDF for the book within Squarespace, I also read that this was not possible and that I should use another hosting website such as ISSUU. To continue with a streamlined presence on the World Wide Web I opted to use a website that already have an account with, WordPress for this CRJ. I can easily upload PDF files to this platform and then be downloaded and viewed on adobe acrobat (for best resolution), at might I add, at no additional cost. I just needed to link this menu with the wordpress file and it was good to go.

All in all I am pretty happy with the website, it’s simple but projects my message and imagery effectively. Before starting this degree I had never put together a website before, so it has been a big learning curve but skills that are so important when displaying your work and putting it out in the public domain.
